What It Involves

A breathing test measuring how much air you can move in and out of your lungs and how fast, usually by blowing hard into a mouthpiece connected to a spirometer. It's used where respiratory demand or exposure risk is higher - offshore, diving and some driving medicals request it, especially if your history flags asthma, smoking or a previous chest condition.
