What It Involves

A pure-tone hearing test across a range of frequencies, usually through headphones in a sound-controlled room, confirming you can hear alarms, radio instructions and warning signals clearly. Rail, offshore, diving and driving-with-instrument-rating aviation roles all require it - some sectors accept a quicker WHO-standard screen, others require a full diagnostic audiogram.

What to Bring

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes - avoid concerts, loud machinery or headphones at high volume for a few hours beforehand, as recent loud exposure can temporarily affect your reading.

A WHO-standard screen is a quicker pass/fail check; a full diagnostic audiogram maps your hearing threshold at each frequency and is required by some sectors (e.g. maritime ENG1).
